Michelle Harmon
Nightwatch
Michelle Harmon begins her work shift when everyone else is leaving for the day.
Michelle is the Margaux Farm night watch/foaling manager.
She grew up in the state of Iowa and studied animal science at the University of Nebraska, completing her degree at the University of Kentucky in 2006.
Michelle spends much of her work time observing the horses under her care. She goes from one barn to the other checking for any problems that may have occurred and to see that the water and hay are plentiful.
During the breeding season, she keeps a notebook with observations that she has made of each mare.
She notes when they waxed in their final days of pregnancy, how they acted, etc.
During the next breeding season she can go back to the notes taken on the same mare and get a better perspective on how the foaling process will occur. “I really enjoy the whole foaling process,” Michelle noted.
When she is not working with horses, Michelle enjoys sleeping, reading and traveling.
