Steve Johnson started in the Thoroughbred business in 1971 in Maryland, coming to Kentucky to the famed Spendthrift Farm in 1975. In 1984, he oversaw the design and construction of the original Margaux Stud (now Adena Springs’ Stallion Division). He has been the manager of Margaux through its various locations and redesigns. He became a partner in 1995 and continues as managing partner. Steve has also been the National Forage Spokesperson (1993), president of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers’ Club (2001), director of the Kentucky Equine Management Internship Program, a member of the governor’s Equine Industry Task Force, as well as the MRLS Liaison Committee, and the UL Equine Administration Program Advisory Committee. Steve lectures frequently both on the farm and in university and professional settings about farm and equine management, farm design and construction, conformation, forage, pasture management and nutrition.
