Northern Dancer

Kela is the product of the Mr. Prospector Northern Dancer cross, as is his sire Numerous. In his offspring, however, Kela will only give Northern Dancer 5x4, and there are now a considerable number of good stakes winner with three crosses of Northern Dancer. Therefore, Kela should still be able to work with Northern Dancer line mares, particular mare by grandsons and great grandsons of Northern Dancer, who will only give Northern Dancer 5x4x4 or 5x4x5

There are some Northern Dancer strains which are particularly interesting here. Numerous is out of a mare who is a three-parts-sister to Nureyev, and very closely related to the brothers Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King and Tate Gallery. Numerous has already sired U.S grade one winner Numerous Times out of a mare by Theatrical, a son of Nureyev, so the Nureyev strain looks good here. Likely Nureyev line sources in the US in addition to the Theatrical include Alwuhush, Atticus (both Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler crosses, so also copy the pattern in Kela’s broodmare sire, Sovereign Dancer), Joyeux Danseur, Stately Don and Zilzal (giving the thee-parts-sister and brother Bold Princess and Bold Lad). Sadler’s Wells is the most likely to be available via El Prado.

Storm Bird is a genetic relative to the Nijinsky II, and so the Storm Bird line should go well, particularly through Storm Cat and Summer Squall, who are also bred on the same Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross as Sovereign Dancer. Sons of Storm Cat include Tale of the Cat, Storm Creek, Storm Boot and High Yield (who are all bred on a reverse Northern Dancer/Mr. Prospector cross to Kela and Numerous), with Tale of the Cat also giving the sister and brother Bold Princess and What a Pleasure, as well as Forestry (giving line breeding to Mr. Prospector’s family and to Grey Flight), Forest Wildcat (broodmare sire a close genetic relative to Mr. Prospector), Hennessy, Mountain Cat, Stormy Atlantic (giving the sisters Moccasin and Thong), Stormin Fever and Tabasco Cat. Summer Squall is the sire of Charismatic (who gives the sister and brother Bold Princess and What pleasure). It could also be worth looking for mares with Nijinsky II’s three-parts-brothers Far North and The Minstrel (sire of Opening Verse, L’Emigrant, palace Music and Peterhof, another Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross).

Other Northern Dancer lines that have been particularly good with Mr. Prospector are Danzig, Deputy Minister, Dixieland Band and El Gran Senor. Potential Danzig sources include Ascot Knight, Belong To me, Boundary, Chief’s Crown (a Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross), Danzig Connection, Dayjur (a reverse Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross to Kela and Numerous), Eagle Eyed (giving linebredding to the dam or Northern Dancer), Honor Grades (a Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross), Katowice (giving linebreeding to Mr. Prospectors family), Langfuhr, Lost Soldier (a Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross), Pine Bluff, Polish Navy (sire of Sea Hero) and Polish Numbers.

Deputy Minister sources include Awesome Again, Dehere and Defrere (bred on a Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross), Deputy Commander, French Deputy, Mane Minister, Open Forum, Salt Lake, Silver Deputy (bred on a reverse Northern Dancer/Mr. Prospector cross to Kela and Numerous), Touch Gold and Victory Speech.

Dixieland Band sources include Chimes Band (a reverse Northern Dancer/Mr. Prospector cross to Kela and Numerous), Citidancer, Dixie Brass, Dixie Union, Dixieland Heat and Kentucky Jazz.

Numerous also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Magestrial, a Northern Dancer/Bold Ruler cross, who the three-parts-sister and brother Bold Princess and Bold Lad.

Seattle Slew and other Bold Ruler

Mr. Prospector and Seattle Slew are from the same female line (Seattle Slew’s granddam is inbred to this family) and combine well together. Kela’s second dam is by Shecky Greene, who is from the same female line. Seattle Slew will also like the daughter strain of Bold Ruler through Sovereign Dancer, the broodmare sire of Kela. There is a stakes winner by Numerous out of a mare by a son of Seattle Slew.

Seattle Slew line stallions who could work as a broodmare sire with Kela include A.P Indy, Avenue of Flags, Capote, Fast Play, General Meeting (whose dam is bred on a similar Raise A Native/Nijinsky II cross to Kela, with the Raise a native coming through Alydar), Gold Legend (giving a good inbreeding to Mr. Prospector), Houston, Metfield, Septieme Ciel, Slew City Slew, Slew O’Gold, Slewacide, Slewpy, Slewvescent, Synastry, Tsunami Slew, Turkey Shoot (giving linebreeding to Grey Flight) and Williamstown.

The A.P. Indy branch of Seattle Slew is available via daughters of Pulpit and Malibu Moon (both out of Mr. Prospector mares, which will be good here). The Capote branch is available via daughters of Boston Harbor.

The Bold Ruler line would also be particularly good via What a Pleasure, a brother to the dam of Sovereign Dancer (broodmare sire of Kela), What a Pleasure can be brought in through Foolish Pleasure (who is available via Maudlin and his son Mecke, and Marfa and his son Farma Way), Honest Pleasure and Exuberant. What a Pleasure is three-parts-brother to Bold Lad, who can be brought in through On To Glory (broodmare sire of classic winner Louis Quatorze by Sovereign Dancer). Other branches of the Bold Ruler line that might work here are Raja Baba, Secretariat, Bold Bidder and Fit To Fight. Raja Baba can be brought in through Is It True, El Baba, Far Out East and Well Decorated and his sons Notebook and Formal Dinner (gives linebreeding to the family of Sovereign Dancer). Secretariat sources include Academy Award (giving a nice inbreeding to Mr. Prospector), D’Accord and Medaille d’Or (bred on a reverse Bold Ruler/Northern Dancer cross to Sovereign Dancer), General Assembly, Pancho Villa and Risen Star. Bold Bidder can be brought in through Spectacular Bid and Caveat (by Cannonade).

Hail to Reason

In general Mr. Prospector is not outstanding with Turn-to/Hail to Reason, but there are certain strains which could work well here. Kela is a half brother to a stakes winner by a son of Roberto, and is from a family which works well with Roberto (having produced Dynaformer, Darby Creek Road, Brian’s Time and Sunshine Forever). Mr.Propector/Roberto is generally good, as Mr. Prospector’s dam is a genetic relative to the dam of Roberto.

Kela is half-brother to a stakes winner by Dynaformer, and he and Sunshine Forever and Darby Creek Road are particularly appealing here, giving inbreeding to Kela’s excellent female line. Other Roberto sons are Kris S. (sire of Arch, Brocco, Prized, Evening Kris, Kissin Kris and You and I), Lear Fan (outstanding, giving linebreeding to the sister and brother, Lt. Stevens and Thong), Red Ransom, Repriced, Shuailaan (good as he is out of a mare by Alydar, a genetic relative to Mr. Prospector), Silver Hawk (sire of Hawkster).

Mr. Prospector has also done well with Turn-to/Hail To Reason through Halo. Te halo strain should also be good here with the double of Northern Dancer (grandson of Almahmoud, also the granddam of Halo). Devil’s Bag (sire of Devil His Due – who has Raise A Cup, a genetic relative to Mr. Prospector – Diablo and Twilight Agenda), Halo’s Image, Jolie’s Halo, Lively One, Saint Ballado, Southern Halo and Sunny’s Halo.

Numerous also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Hail to Reason’s son, Mr. Leader.

Alydar and other Raise a Native

Mr. Prospector’s genetic relative, Alydar should be good here. A particularly good source is Alysheba (out of a mare by Lt. Stevens, a brother to the third dam of Numerous). Other Alydar sons are Criminal Type, Easy Goer, Dare and Go, Saratoga Six, Strike The Gold, Turkoman, Jeblar and Wheaton.

Mr. Prospector has also crossed quite well over mares descending from raise a Native via Majestic Prince (sire of Majestic Light and Coastal; grandsire of Wavering Monarch).

It would also be worth considering mare carrying Mr. Prospector’s brothers, Red Ryder or Search For Gold, and the similarly bred Raise a Cup, Marshua’s Dancer and Native Royalty.

Damascus

The Mr. Prospector/Damascus cross has produced more than 70 stakes winners, and Numerous has a stakes winner out of a Damascus line mare. Damascus would work particularly well here via Gilded Time (giving the sister and brother Bold Princess and What a Pleasure) and Time For A Change (giving linebreeding to the Grey Flight family, and sire of Fly So Free and Technology).

It could also be worth bringing in Damascus via Private Account (sire of Private Terms, Corporate Report, Personal Flag, Unaccounted For, Secret Hello and Valley Crossing), Cutlass (giving linebreeding to the family Numerous, sire of Cutlass Reality), Ogygian and Bailjumper (whose sister is the granddam of a Numerous stakes winner; sire of Skip Trial; grandsire of Skip Away).

Others

Any linebredding to Numerous’s family, that of Rough Shod II/Thong should be good, Sources include the previously mentioned Nureyev, Sadler’s Wells, Fairy Kings, Tate Gallery and Hermitage. Other sources are Sword Dancer (a three-parts-brother to the dam of Numerous), King Pellinore (half-brother to the granddam of Numerous), Apalachee, (dam, Moccasin, a sister to Thong) – who is already sire of the second dam of a stakes winner by Numerous – Stormy Atlantic (third am Moccasin), Lt. Stevens (brother to Moccasin, and broodmare sire of Lear Fan and Alysheba). Duplications of Forli, the sire of Special (granddam of Numerous), have also done well for Numerous in general.

Duplicating the Grey Flight family of Sovereign Dancer with sources that include Bold Lad, What a Pleasure, Time For a Change, Settlement Day, Turkey Shoot and Formal Dinner should be profitable.

Numerous has a Champion out of a Caro line mare with a similar background to Caro’s son, Cozzene, so he could be worth trying (as could his son, Alphabet Soup).

Numerous has a stakes winner out of a Relaunch mare and there are 18 stakes winner on the Mr. Prospector/Relaunch cross, so that could be worth trying. Relaunch is sire of Honour and Glory and Skywalker (sire of Betrando).
