Margaux freshening grad FIRSTRATE PROPOSAL took the opener at Churchill Downs yesterday, setting the stage for what will hopefully be a big two days for our graduates. Six horses from the Margaux Farm starting, training and freshening programs are entered in graded stakes races on Oaks and Derby Days.
Starting and training graduate of 2014, BREAKING LUCKY, kicks things off today on the Oaks undercard at 1:17pm in race six, the Alysheba S. Presented by Big Fish Casino (Gr.2), where he will take on a field of eleven going a mile and a sixteenth on the dirt. Breaking Lucky enters the race off of a solid second place finish in the New Orleans Handicap (Gr.2) and will break from post two.
2016 freshening graduate TELL ALL YOU KNOW takes to the turf one race later, in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint S. Presented by Twinspires.com (Gr.3). The eight-year-old gelding is breaking from the difficult outside position in a field of thirteen going five furlongs.
Saturday finds multiple graded stakes winner LIGHTSTREAM making her 2017 debut in race six, the Humana Distaff S. (Gr.1). A freshening graduate of 2015, Lightstream takes on six other fillies and mares for trainer Brian Lynch and owners Head of Plains Partners LLC, Little Red Feather Racing et al.
The following race sees HILLHOUSE HIGH, another 2016 freshening grad, entered in the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile S. Presented by Longines (Gr.2). She ships in from California off of an exciting win in the Royal Heroine S. (Gr.2) at Santa Anita.
Margaux is represented in race nine, the American Turf S. Presented by Ram Trucks (Gr.2), by starting and training grad HOLIDAY STONE. The 3yo colt was last seen running a brave second in the Transylvania S. (Gr.3) at Keeneland on April 7th.
Last but not least, in the final race before the Kentucky Derby, starting, training and freshening graduate DIVISIDERO will attempt to defend his title in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic S. (Gr.1). The morning line favorite was just nipped at the wire in his last start at Keeneland and goes postward for his connections at 5:25pm.
