Keeneland November Sales Close With Substantial Increases, Smashed Records

Fueled by top-class race fillies and mares, and supplemented by two highly unique dispersals, the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale produced record prices and notable increases.  The 11-day sale quickly rose to the gross proceeds set during last year’s 13-day sale ($147,392,900)—and then proceeded to smash those numbers by over SIXTY-ONE MILLION by the fall of the hammer on the seventeenth, bringing this year’s gross to $208,511,200. NIAGARA CAUSEWAY to Stand at Margaux for 2012

Niagara Causeway, a graded stakes-winning son of leading sire Giant’s Causeway, will stand the 2012 breeding season at Margaux Farm in Midway, Kentucky. As a three-year-old Niagara Causeway ran second in the Grade 3 Cinema Breeders’ Cup Handicap and at five he won the Grade 3 Tokyo City Handicap setting a new track record at Santa Anita. Lifetime, he was on the board in 11 of 20 career starts while posting four wins. Margaux’s Steve Johnson said, “He’s a grand-looking, proven stakes winner, out of a Champion mare by Theatrical, and from a dynamic blacktype family. He has all of the elements necessary to become a successful stallion, and we are honored to have him at Margaux.” Niagara Causeway’s first foals will be two-year-olds in 2012 and he will continue to stand for $3,000 live foal.
