F.A.Q.

How far can the Margaux program go with my horse?

Depending on what each client wants, we can go as far as breezing them from the gate about a quarter mile.

When might a horse graduating from your program be ready for the track?

Each horse in our program has an individual plan. When we sit down with clients, we can work with their goals to make sure the horse is as far along as possible when they are ready to send them to the track. We send the majority of our graduates to the track around April or May.

When do you start the yearlings?

We start yearlings at many points throughout the winter, but most of them start in November or December based on the goals of our clients. Our clients all have different needs, so it makes sense to offer them as many options as possible. We are flexible with our starting dates and because each horse is individual, we can discuss the best approach and starting date for your yearling based on your goals.

When a horse reaches the racetrack, how long should I expect before a race?

This answer mainly depends on the trainer since we have no control over the horse once it leaves the program; however, trainers that are familiar with our program will agree that our graduates are ready to progress quickly once they reach the racetrack.

Will my horse be turned out during it’s time on the farm?

Yes, while in training, horses are turned out an average of 18 hours a day. Turn out during early race training is so important for young horses. It not only allows for increased bone development, but it also allows the horses to be naturally competitive.

Why should I bring my horse to Margaux?

At Margaux, we strive to produce the most complete, sound horses in a relaxed atmosphere where they can thrive. We communicate with our clients on a weekly basis, and we send horses to the track ready to continue training without the setbacks of early injuries. We encourage everyone to come visit and view our horses in training to really understand the level of training they receive.
