Grand Arch – Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1)
Grand arch will compete Saturday at Santa Anita Park in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile for owners Jim and Susan Hill and trainer Brian Lynch. He enters the race coming off a second place finish to previous HOY Wise Dan in the Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) at Keeneland.
The son of Arch is having a career season at age 5 winning the King Edward S. (G2) at Woodbine and taking second in both the Fourstardave H. (G2) and Shadwell Turf Mile (G1). The consistent running gelding has finished off the board only once in his 17 career starts gaining total earnings of $658,000.
Grand Arch worked five furlongs at Keeneland on the main track October 25th in his last serious work before the Breeders’ Cup Mile. With rider Julien Leparoux aboard, the gelding went 1:00 4/5 in company. He arrived to Santa Anita Park on October 29th and will run from post 1 with jockey John Velazquez aboard.
