Donato Lanni and John Youngblood’s Avanzare scored his second straight graded win on Sunday, Aug. 23 in the $200,000 Del Mar Mile H. (G2). It was the first start back for the five-year-old Grand Reward gelding, who took a seven month layoff from his Jan. 31 win in the Arcadia S (G2).
Rider Gary Stevens reported Avanzare had been off the extended amount of time due to throat surgery.
"I worked him two weeks ago. ... I knew he was fit," Stevens said. "Proctor put the pressure on me. He said, 'If you get the trip, he'll win. "
Avanzare is a previous Margaux Farm training graduate. To watch a replay of the race, click here.
