Margaux Grads up for Graded Stakes

Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (G1) - Grand Arch

Jim and Susan Hill’s Grand Arch is set to battle Horse of the Year Wise Dan and previous Turf Mile winner Silver Max in the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday, October 3rd. The 5-year-old gelding has hit the board in all but one of his 16 career starts. He placed fifth last time out during a wide trip in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1) at Woodbine on September 14th.  

Freshened at Margaux Farm and trained by Brian Lynch, the bay son of Arch will look to capture his first Grade 1 victory and gain an automatic bid to the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita Park on November 1st.  

Post time for the $1,000,000 event is 5:45 PM. 

 

City of Hope Mile Stakes (G2) - Avanzare

Coming off a recent win in the Washington Park Handicap (G3) at Arlington Park, Avanzare, will make his California debut in the Grade 2 City of Hope Stakes at Santa Anita Park for owners Donato Lanni and John F. Youngblood. The 4-year-old gelding by Grand Reward has proven to be consistent finishing first or second in eight of his nine career starts.  

Avanzare heads the 12 horse field on Saturday for trainer Tom Proctor and will be ridden by top apprentice Drayden Van Dyke. Post time for the race is 5:00 PM.   

 

Woodford Stakes (G3)- Sharp Sensation 

Sharp Sensation looks to score his second consecutive stakes victory for trainer Reade Baker and owners Jim and Susan Hill in the Grade 3 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland on October 3rd. The 4-year-old gelding by Sharp Humor previously won the Turf Monster H. (G3) at Parx Racing on September 1st.  

The field for the event includes Group 1 Darley Prix Morny winner No Nay Never and two-time graded stakes winner, Marchman. Post time is 3:25 PM.
