Margaux Moment of the Month: Starting and Training Grad Gets G1 Win

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Margaux starting and training graduate, Divisidero, captured his first Grade 1 win on Saturday, May 7 at Churchill Downs in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic. It was the second graded stakes win for the four-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy who captured the American Turf S. (G2) one year prior on Derby Day 2015.

Owned by Gunpowder Farms, Divisidero is trained by Buff Bradley and ridden by Edgar Prado. He covered the mile and an eighth race in 1:47.37 over a firm turf course.

“I love winning on Derby Day. He’s a really special horse. We felt really confident coming into this race,” said Bradley.  “We’re realistic. We knew this was a good bunch of horses. He’s a terrific horse and I think he’s going to show what kind of horse he is this year. Edgar (Prado) thought he’d be closer. We felt he could lay a lot closer. Edgar thought there wasn’t as much speed in here. We felt like when we got to this distance we’d let him run his race. Edgar did just a beautiful job. Edgar is our man. Once we get a jock who gets along with a horse and fits a horse, we stick with him.”

Bred by in Kentucky by Hinkle Farms, Divisidero was a $250,000 purchase from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. His career record stands at 8-4-1-2, with earnings of $678,850.
