It was a memorable Keeneland opening weekend for Margaux Farm, as training graduate Eclatant delivered a standout performance to capture the $650,000 Grade 1 Madison Stakes.
The 4-year-old filly, a homebred for Stonestreet Stables, is by leading sire Into Mischief and is a full sister to Grade 2 winner Mutasaabeq. From the beginning, she has shown the kind of quality that defines top-level runners, and she put it all together on Saturday afternoon.
Breaking alertly, Eclatant tracked the pace along the two path before gradually advancing into contention. She moved slightly wide around the turn, setting her sights on the leaders, and at the top of the stretch squared up with a very game Grand Job. The two battled down the lane, with Eclatant digging in late and prevailing at the wire in a determined finish.
Her Grade 1 victory is the latest highlight in what has been a thoughtfully managed and highly productive career. As a 3-year-old, she made an immediate impression, breaking her maiden at first asking before adding an allowance victory. She stepped into graded company with ease, finishing third in the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes before securing a win in the Grade 3 Forward Gal Stakes.
Following a layoff from June to February, Eclatant returned this year with an allowance victory at Gulfstream Park, setting the stage for her return to the top level. She now boasts career earnings of $705,073.
We are proud to have played a role in Eclatant’s development and are grateful to Stonestreet Stables for their continued trust. Congratulations to trainer Brad Cox and all connections on a well-earned Grade 1 victory.
