Raku Impresses with Debut Victory at Monmouth Park

Margaux Farm graduate Raku made a winning first impression on July 17, capturing Race 3 at Monmouth Park in dominant fashion for owner Conover Stable and trainer Kelly J. Breen.

The 2-year-old son of Kantharos contested a 5-furlong Maiden Special Weight on the dirt, breaking sharply to establish position on the front end. Raku dueled for the lead through the opening stages before taking command at the top of the stretch and drawing away to a decisive 3 1/2-length victory.

Raku was purchased as a yearling by Margaux Farm owners Jim and Sue Hill for $70,000 before being pinhooked through the farm's 2-Year-Olds in Training program. Following his preparation at Margaux, he sold for $150,000 to Legion Bloodstock at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

The impressive debut adds another successful graduate to Margaux Farm's growing list of 2-year-old sales graduates, showcasing the farm's commitment to developing young Thoroughbreds from yearling purchase through the sales ring and on to the racetrack.

Margaux Farm congratulates owner Conover Stable, trainer Kelly J. Breen, Legion Bloodstock, and all of Raku's connections on an outstanding debut victory and looks forward to following his continued racing career.
