Montour Wins on Debut at Colonial Downs

Two-year-old Margaux Farm training graduate Montour made a winning debut on Sunday, August 23, taking an $87,500 maiden special weight at Colonial Downs.

The Tiz the Law colt overcame some early adversity in the 5 1/2-furlong turf contest. After being shuffled back in traffic into the turn, Montour began to make up ground under jockey Sheldon Russell, advancing three wide around the bend before moving into contention in the stretch.

Montour continued to gain on pacesetter After All, engaging his rival late and wearing him down to win by three-quarters of a length. He completed the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.75.

By Tiz the Law out of Clare View, by Hard Spun, Montour was bred in Virginia by Morgan's Ford Farm and Sally Thomas. He races for owner Susan Naylor and trainer Brittany Russell.

Montour came through the Margaux training program before heading to the racetrack, making it rewarding to see him put that foundation to work with a win in his very first start.

Congratulations to Susan Naylor, Brittany Russell and all of Montour's connections on an exciting start to his career!
